- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: Rover 12 tourer ~58 (the green one)The modern adaptor was too long....There was not enough "give" in the now very short rubber hose sections to be able to bend them over the pipe from the Read ? thermostat. Drat ! I WILL find away.I did 250 miles ibn last weeks sunshine ad it was a delight. She uses about a pint […]David2021
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: P2 14 questionsFiennes do them for Bentleys & prices are accordingly eyewatering! These fittings are used on machine tools and are much less expensive, but need to have threads modified as suggested.I don't know how significant the "sizes" are...Rover, being engineers no doubt wanted it absolutely correctly metered. Frankly these days, as long as lots of oil gets […]David2021
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: P2 14 questionsThe reason was often that mechanics didn't know how to fix it, did not understand it and had difficulties in obtaining spare parts. All that can be resolved today. read more here:https://lulis.org/2011/10/29/26-453-%d7 ... %95%d7%9f/Since then David Mosley passed away, RIP. but you can get all the necessary components from Fines . - Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: P2 14 questionsThanks for the reply. Yes, I have considered reinstating the Luvax system, most of it seems to still be there, I wonder why it was disconnected? Leaks presumably. For now I'll keep it as it is as there is enough to do already. A new loom for example, are they available anywhere? If nobody makes an […]lincsnick
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: P2 14 questions3/8" BSF from memory. I think your intention is to keep using the nipples but : If you buy new metering units (IB) which are 1/8" BSP, they recut to the right thread with only a decent die required. Be sure, if you buy them from Lubetec, that you buy all the ones you need […]SHyslop
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • P2 14 questionsI've not long bought my 1939 P2 14 and just joined the RSR so I'm on a steep learning curve. Please forgive loads of questions! My car has the Luvax chassis lubrication system disconnected and grease nipples fitted. A couple are missing, does anyone know what thread they are please? Also I need a full […]lincsnick
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: Gearbox a bit too highWill,Glad I was able to be of some help. When I re-fitted the engines of both my cars I don’t recall the rubbers being different thicknesses for top and bottom, but my inclination would be to put the thicker at the bottom as that takes the most weight and I’m wondering now if mine are […]TonyG
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: Gearbox a bit too highYou were right Tony,When I replaced the rubber mountings there were no part numbers on the items and I put the thicker ones on the bottom, looking back at my video I and see that the new ones are significantly thicker and that is the cause of the air filter rubbing on the bonnet. The […]Willem
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: Gearbox a bit too highThank you for your thoughts Tony, you have given me some thing to check, the engine did go back to the correct height etc, the odd thing is that the starter handle now touches the radiator, again, it didn't do that before, the old girl is putting up a fight but I will win, (eventually)All […]Willem
- Wilks' cars P1 and P2, thats cars up to 1947 • Re: Gearbox a bit too highHi Will,This isn’t a problem that I have encountered, but I can picture the situation you are in. The engine and box are mounted at 3 points; the gearbox rubber block and the two engine mountings at the front, which you renewed. Any of them could result in the engine sitting differently if not in […]TonyG
